In Japan we call functional ware ‘utsuwa’, which also means container, ability, capacity.
Japan has such a long history of making craft that there are many “rules and manner” which define what good “Utsuwa” is.
Being anonymous is one of the topics which intrigues me. As an artist I have learned to show my own personality, but making good Utsuwa is not easy, after a pile of broken glass I found this work…a sense of silence whispering my story.
I hope people can feel the sea I love, eternity over human being, connecting us all the way from Japan to Britain for thousands of years.
Please note this work will be dispatched after March 31st, when the exhibition finishes.
