Hand Me Down

£2,500.00

Sand-etched glass, wooden pegs, stainless steel fixings.

100 x 40 x 10cm

Categories: ,

This work consists of three pieces of glass in the shape of cloth fragments. The pieces are pegged onto a steel cable and each depicts a detail of lace or knitting which is sand-etched into the glass along with a partial glimpse of a poem or proverb.

The pieces evoke words blowing on the breeze, casting their shadow on the wall and illuminating the passing down of skills, traditions, stories and histories from hand to hand through domestic craft work.

The poems are by Welsh poets Emma Baines and Menna Elfyn, the proverb is Chinese.
