1979 BA.hons Design (medical &scientific illustration) North Staffs Polytechnic.
1979- 90 worked as an illustrator.
1990- began working with glass.
Exhibit’s internationally and has work in private and public collections.
Teaches at West Dean College UK, and Germany, Sweden and USA.
Nancy Sutcliffe is a glass engraver and gilder. Her background is in illustration and drawing is key to her artistic practice. She uses small diamond burrs to carve into glass then gilds precious metal leaf into and around her engravings, giving depth and atmosphere. The combination of engraving and gilding has become characteristic of her work.
“Mirror mirror” shows 2 women regarding one another intently. The viewer becomes part of this piece and completes it by adding their own reflection.
